Tall Ships Sailing Expeditions
The 2017 expedition has one space remaining. If you’re interested in next years voyage, please contact me at your earliest convenience as we’re finalising crew over the coming few weeks. Contact details are available at the bottom of this page.
What’s it all about?
The adventure begins at Plymouth onboard The Island Trust’s classic wooden ships during the first or second week of the Summer Break. We sail to either the Channel Islands, France, the Isles of Scilly or any number of other destinations along the Western Channel (weather and tides dependent).
Participants need no sailing experience but are welcome to join the schools sailing club if they wish for a taster (details from the PDSSA web page).
All sailors are taught to run the ships from day one. Throughout the week they will; hoist and lower the sails, helm (steer) the ship, cook, scrub the decks and clean below decks, lower and raise the anchor, and help make the decisions about destinations. Whilst ashore, all sailors can visit the local towns, villages, beaches, shops, cafes and local attractions. Whilst at sea, all sailors can be as involved or as relaxed as they wish. Fishing, reading and game-playing are all favourites…and jumping off the ships when at anchor are a great way to appreciate what ‘life-at-sea’ really is all about.
