We were delighted with Ofsted’s description of Coombe Dean earlier this year as “An outstanding school where students flourish in an environment that embodies a strong sense of community, responsibility and inclusion.” To be described as “outstanding” is an accolade coveted by every school, but we were especially pleased that the ethos of our school was also singled out for particular recognition in the opening sentence.
Our ambitions for our students were eloquently captured by two parents who wrote independently to Ofsted and whose comments were quoted in the inspection report. One parent wrote that;
“The school seeks to tap into the best of each child and looks for ways through the curriculum to help them develop their areas of interest and expertise”
while another described how Coombe Dean is;
“encouraging our children to grow into responsible, mature young adults, responsible for their learning, their behaviour, the environment and those around them.”
Students want to come to Coombe Dean School. All Years groups are full and the parent body is very supportive. Relationships throughout the school are excellent and there is a real pride in what we continue to achieve as a school community.
Everyone in school contributes to our core purpose of making a positive difference to the lives of young people. To that end we seek to promote excellence and opportunity in our staff as well as in our students. Colleagues are able to take advantage of a wide variety of training opportunities to promote their own personal development and thereby further improve the effectiveness of the school.
