General Subject Statement:
We believe in a creating and having a learning environment where students can: experience a broad and balanced knowledge of materials, processes and use of media; establish a confident and imaginative approach to Art, Design and Craft; take responsibility for their own learning and that of others; develop inter-personal relationships and skills that revolve around the care of others, sharing and a sense of belonging.

Year 9 Developing and exploring ideas. A Study into the structure and shape of natural form Individual thematic study exploring personal responses to a topic Coursework

Year 10 Develop and refining ideas. Working with ceramic and the start of the thematic responses to ‘Deconstruction Reconstruction’ Exploring the work of artists, traditions and other cultures and presentation of work
Year 11 Colour exploration and the development of ideas/sketchbook work. Mixed media application of development work onto a final piece in either 2 or 2D relief Externally Set Assignment (set by the exam board). Approximately February to May Externally Set Assignment

Year 9 Exploring 3D techniques in card, paper, wire and clay. Developing ideas and ways to communicate Development and refinement of final pieces for natural form sculpture piece Coursework

Year 10 Contextual research. Design and make a character for TV, film or theatre. Development and refinement work to include wire, clay, card, foam and latex. Final pieces completed this term.
Contextual research into Artists and Designers working in Architecture and Sculpture
Year 11 Exploring buildings, architecture and sculpture through student set brief. Working through to final pieces. Externally Set Assignment (set by the exam board). Approximately February to May Externally Set Assignment

Year 12 Focussed contextual and practical studies on:

  • Creating and using collage
  • Expressive mark-making and paint
  • Drawing and Observation
Development of individual student set brief. Contextual research, develop and refine work through to final pieces in 2D and 3D
Begin personal study – looking at an area of Art and Design practice. Research and investigate

Year 13 Develop practical responses to the personal study. Intensive exploration and refinement. Outcomes in 2D and/or 3D Externally Set Assignment (set by the exam board). Approximately February to May Externally Set Assignment
