Biking for Climate Change

Coombe Dean School is broadening the extra-curricular opportunities for pupils even more this year. Many members of staff support the increasing array of activities available throughout the year, which can be seen on the schools website:

As part of this program, we are running the Level 3 Bikeability award for 54 Year 7 pupils in order to build skill and confidence in road cycling. In the longer term, we hope that pupils will develop an interest in cycling for fun, and also explore mountain biking, commuting and using a bike as their preferred mode of transport for shorter journeys. This is particularly relevant when considering the ‘climate emergency’, the increasing cost of cars and fuel and the many health and fitness benefits of regular exercise.

The school has high quality, secure bike storage for those who wish to cycle to school. As the weather improves, we will be running a mountain biking club at school and opportunities to maintain and service bikes to keep everyone cycling.
