It is time to celebrate the achievements of yet another fantastic season of sailing and kayaking with the Coombe Dean Sailing Club. Throughout the season which started back in April, the students have worked tirelessly to develop their water confidence, sense of adventure as well as dinghy sailing and kayaking skills. It is great to see the students develop their team working skills preparing the boats before and after the session.
The weather has been favourable for most of our Friday night sessions with some good winds and fortunate tides (it is always tiring when trying to recover dinghies when you are ankle deep in mud…). We have paddled round the beautiful rocky coastline on the sit on top kayaks, often trying but sadly failing, to spot the dolphin that was residing within the Sound last year.
There have been several highlights… One was a sail into Hooe Lake and back which is the first time I have managed to have students with the ability and confidence to achieve that. Another was an epic sail towards Drakes Island and racing out into JennyCliff Bay before a great downwind sail straight back to base.
Students have achieved RYA national recognised qualifications in Dinghy Sailing and I am delighted some are keen to continue their skills through work experience.
Many thanks to all those who have taken part this season and I look forward to more water sport action in 2017.
Well done: Drew S, Richard W, George W, Sam.P, Isaac S, Toby H, Ellie T, Jacob R, Barney H, Ryan G, Josh G and Dan B.
