Governor of the Month

Mrs Sarah Rochester, Parent Governor, spent a day in school last week visiting the Art and PE Departments.  Here are some extracts from her report to the Board of Governors:

‘My first lesson was Year 11 Art with Mrs Wilson.  The students were finishing off pieces of work in both their art books and a raised piece of work taken from drawings they had worked on earlier in the term.’

‘I then moved on to Year 9 girls’ PE with Mrs Walpole.  We went out on the Astroturf to play football and learn about boundaries in football.  I attempted to referee a game; with high wind and then rain the weather  was against us, but everyone rose to the challenge!’

‘At break-time, I enjoyed chatting with Mr Payne over a cup of coffee about the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.’

‘Following tutor time with Mrs Wainwright’s Year 7 Tutor Group, I was back to the Art Department for my next lesson – Year 9 Art with Mr Gardner. The students were working on pen drawings, mostly black and white and designs of their 3D mask they had completed. There were some really wonderful works of art.’

‘Over to PE for my next lesson – Year 11 boys’ PE with Mr Grenney on the Astroturf and yet again the weather was windy and this time very wet.  I watched the students working really hard playing football and valiantly try to keep warm; they all seemed to enjoy it and played a good match!’

‘Next was lunch – I had a curry and rice followed by fruit salad which, as always, was superb.’

‘For my final lesson I was with Mrs Hughes’ Year 13 Art Textiles class, where the students were all finishing off their final coursework pieces – some wonderful work had been completed.’

‘Thanks to all the staff and students for a brilliant day in school.’
