Great Start to the Coombe Dean Cricket Season

Coombe Dean’s Year 7 and 8 cricket team have played their first two matches. Boys and Girls from Year 7 and 8 quickly assembled to make a team with promise.

Fixtures have started early this year, so players worked extremely well to learn rules, tactics and to form partnerships while batting.

The team played extremely well in two games against Devonport High School for Boys, and against Plymstock School. The team reflected quickly, learning about bowling straight to reduce ‘wide balls’, ‘attacking batting’ and how to maximise run scoring. They also learnt about ‘backing up’ while fielding, in order to take more wickets and reduce the oppositions run score.

Our students made a wonderful job of representing Coombe Dean, even volunteering for another school who had reduced Cricketers on the day.

Training takes place every Wednesday afternoon, from 3 to 4pm on our Astro Turf. All students are welcome to attend training from Years 7-8, especially those not already involved in the team.

There are no games planned for next week, so training will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday from 3 to 4pm. This is an excellent opportunity for the team to practise for the following week’s fixtures. New players are welcome, and it is important for all current players to attend to keep their position in the team.

Well done Coombe Dean Cricketers – a great start!
