Deciding your next step after 13 years in education can be a daunting challenge. Gap year, straight into work, an apprenticeship or more studying by following a path through University, there are many possibilities.
In order to give as much support in this challenge as possible, on Friday 22nd September, Sixth Form students from Coombe Dean school together with some students from one of our consortium partners, Hele’s school, travelled to Bristol to attend the UK University and apprenticeship fair held at Ashton Gate, the home of Bristol City Football Club.
This provided students with a fantastic opportunity to interact with a wide range of universities from around the UK, from Belfast to Falmouth, from Manchester to Portsmouth along with many apprenticeship providers such as Rolls Royce, Airbus and IBM. Students relished the opportunity to speak to ambassadors of the universities to discover more about university life and the multitude of courses they have on offer.
Seminars were also available which provided an added level of information on themes such as finance through to advice on what to include in your personal statement. Year 12’s have come away with a clear idea of what they need to achieve in their subjects and Year 13’s are now able to finalise with a little bit more ease their 5 choices for their UCAS application which they are currently working on. Others have already taken up the opportunity to e-mail apprenticeship links and have started the process of their application.
