Ten Tors Progress

Ten Tors is more than just a long walk. It is a battle against the elements, against self-doubt and against gravity.

At times it seems hard to put one foot in front of another, and yet our Ten Tors teams keep going, despite aching legs, sore backs and flagging spirits. Everyone who turns up time-and-again is a winner. To get up at 5.30am on a Saturday morning, and be met by rain and cold, is too much for many, but not for our superstars.

The teams have just completed their first expedition – two tough days in less-than-ideal conditions on the high North moor. They all completed 70% of the final distances required for the actual event, and in strong winds, heavy rain, hail, sunshine and fog; typical Dartmoor weather!

Skills learned on Duke of Edinburgh training have been used once more. Tent pitching and cooking were added to map reading, following bearings, negotiating rivers, night navigation and bog-jumping!

Our next trip takes distances to 80%, let’s hope for some better weather!
