As the weather stayed kind to us, several of Coombe Dean pupils were incredibly fortunate to have been visited by a team from the Army Air Corps this Wednesday, and the team of five soldiers brought with them a full size de-commissioned Gazelle helicopter!
During the day, Years 9, 10 & 12 took part in team building activities that were demonstrated and led by our guests. Year 9 had a slight edge over Year 12 with the speed in which they worked together to lift a bin – all using only ropes held at a distance between them.
Our pupils were later able to sit in the cockpit of the Gazelle and learn how the controls operate the rotor blades, and how a very good sense of hand, eye and foot coordination is required to fly a helicopter – trickier than the Air Corps make it look on the telly!
Our pupils all enjoyed the challenges and excitement of this amazing opportunity, so a big thank you to our Army guests, and to our pupils for making this such a rewarding experience.
