On Thursday we were pleased to welcome eight Croatian teachers to Coombe Dean. The visit had been requested by the Euro Partnership Agency – a group who have sent us visitors in the past. Their interest was particularly in how ICT is used in teaching and e-learning. They had chosen the right place to visit in Coombe Dean!
Split into two groups, the teachers were given a tour of the school to enable them to see the extensive use of ICT in all classrooms and beyond (sixth form study pods having wireless access for students to use their own devices to further their study), and also visited specific classes to see how the new computing courses are being introduced, and also how IT and related studies are taught.
During their two hour visit they saw groups studying Games Design, Creative ICT, Animation, Product Design and Music in the Apple Mac suite. They were also shown examples of software that are used in class and available for learning from home, as well as our own Moodle: LearnCoombeDean.
Having visited several other Plymouth schools – the teachers commented enthusiastically on the expertise of our staff, the quality of work produced by students, the facilities available at Coombe Dean, and recognised the exciting plans for new developments in Computing, IT and
e-learning at Coombe Dean. They left school praising our dynamic learning environment and the marvellous opportunities offered to our young people.
