Student Shines at the English School’s Athletics Championships

Annabelle in Y9 won the national 200m champion and broke the longstanding record that had stood since 1989.

This weekend at Alexandra Stadium in Birmingham, the English School’s Athletics Championships brought together the nation’s top young athletes — and our very own Annabelle F made an incredible mark.

Last year, as a Year 8, Annabelle was crowned Junior Girls’ 100m champion. This year, moving up to Year 9 and competing at the top of her age group, she took on the 200m event. What followed was nothing short of spectacular: Annabelle dominated the race, outclassing a field of outstanding sprinters to become the national 200m champion with a remarkable time of 23.73 seconds.

Not only did she win, but she also broke a longstanding record that had stood since 1989!

Annabelle will now proudly represent England at the Home Nations competition, and we wish her all the best in this next exciting stage of her athletic career.

What makes Annabelle’s achievement even more impressive is her humility and unassuming nature. Around school and in lessons, she’s just like any other student — you wouldn’t guess the extraordinary talent she displays on the track.

We are incredibly proud of Annabelle and look forward to watching her career flourish in the years ahead. Well done, Annabelle!
