Cultural Immersion in Languages Lessons
Experiencing different cultures in language lessons.
As part of the culture week, Year 7 to 9 languages classes were learning and trying different things related to the culture of the language.
In German classes, students learnt about Sankt Martin and Laternelaufen, which is celebrated in Germany on the 11th November. They followed what the German children would do on that day by making lanterns and singing the song Ich geh mit meiner Laterne.
In French classes, students learnt about Beaujolais Nouveau Day, a day on the third week of November to celebrate the first wine of the year’s harvest. Students had a chance to soak in a relaxed atmosphere by tasting a ‘dégustation’ of wine, a mix of water and grenadine that looked like it. In addition, they enjoyed a typical French apéritif. They had a little taste of the French way of living.
In Spanish classes, students learnt more about tapas in Spain and had a chance to pretend that they were in Spain and try some Spanish tapas. To some of them, it was their first time trying food like Spanish potato and onion tortilla. Whether they ultimately liked it or not, this was a good experience for them.
Let’s watch these videos for a recap of the students’ cultural experience:
