This targeted programme was designed to support students in developing their reading skills, with a particular focus on improving comprehension. Delivered over eight weeks, students attended three 30-minute sessions each week and showed excellent commitment throughout.

The impact of the intervention has been exceptional. All students made excellent progress in reading comprehension, which was the core focus of the programme, with most achieving over three years’ progress. This is a fantastic achievement in such a short period of time.

The majority of students also demonstrated accelerated progress in their reading age, with several making gains well above expected rates. Four out of five students showed clear improvement in fluency, with some moving from below age-related expectations to within or above the expected range. This reflects increased confidence and greater automaticity in reading.

Student feedback has been very positive, with all participants reporting that the programme has helped to develop their reading skills.
