Year 6 Transition Day: A Warm Welcome to Coombe Dean

We were delighted to welcome our incoming Year 6 students to Coombe Dean School for an exciting and memorable Transition Day.
The day was designed to help students feel confident and prepared for their move to secondary school in September, while giving them a taste of life as a Coombe Dean student. A highlight of the day was meeting their new Year 7 tutors: Miss Brown, Mrs Wood, Miss Pritchard, Mr Kidd, Mr Jenkins and Mrs Tomlinson. Students had the opportunity to spend time with their tutor groups, get to know their classmates and begin building relationships with the staff who will support them throughout their first year at Coombe Dean.
Throughout the day, students took part in a wide range of activities that showcased the many opportunities available at the school. They enjoyed a tour of the school site, helping them become familiar with key areas and gain confidence navigating their new environment. They also met a number of key staff members and learned more about the support available to them as they make the transition from primary to secondary education.
One of the most valuable sessions of the day gave students the chance to ask questions directly to current Year 7 students. Whether they were curious about finding classrooms, making new friends or managing homework, the panel shared honest advice and reassuring experiences about their first year at Coombe Dean.
Students also experienced some of the exciting learning opportunities on offer. In Science, they took part in practical experiments, while in PE they enjoyed getting active and working together. They also explored the range of modern foreign languages taught at Coombe Dean, discovering new words and cultures they will study in Year 7.
To encourage a love of reading over the summer holidays, students were introduced to this year's Summer Reading Challenge, giving them the opportunity to develop their reading skills and arrive in September ready to share their favourite books and recommendations.
The day concluded with a fantastic Community Event, where students and their families came together to celebrate the start of their Coombe Dean journey. With delicious food, fun activities and bouncy castles, it was a wonderful opportunity for families to meet staff, connect with one another and enjoy the welcoming Coombe Dean community spirit.
We would like to thank all students, families, staff and student ambassadors who helped make the day such a success. We are incredibly proud of how enthusiastically our future Year 7 students embraced the experience, and we look forward to welcoming them back in September as the newest members of the Coombe Dean family.
