Kevin Dyke, Executive Headteacher - Strategic Leadership and School Improvement
As Executive Headteacher across four schools within the Westcountry Schools Trust, Mr Dyke provides strategic leadership and drives continuous improvement across all settings. He works closely with headteachers and senior teams to strengthen teaching and learning, raise standards, and ensure that every pupil has access to an ambitious and inclusive education.
Before taking up his current post, Mr Dyke served as Headteacher of Coombe Dean School from 2020 to 2024, leading the school to a successful Ofsted judgement of ‘Good’ in March 2022. He previously held acting headteacher roles at two other trust schools, following a lengthy tenure as Deputy Headteacher at Plymstock School. Mr Dyke began his career as a teacher of Physical Education.
Mr Dyke brings extensive leadership experience and a passion for developing both staff and students. He is committed to building strong school communities rooted in core values.
Caroline Granville, Headteacher - Strategic Leadership and Management
As Headteacher of Coombe Dean School, Mrs Granville provides clear strategic leadership and direction, ensuring that the school continues to be a place where every student can belong, thrive and achieve academic success. She is deeply committed to fostering a culture of inclusion, care and high expectations for all members of the school community.
Mrs Granville has served Coombe Dean since 2007, progressing through roles as Deputy Head of English, Head of English, Assistant Headteacher for Teaching and Learning, Deputy Headteacher for Pastoral Care and Inclusion, and Acting Headteacher before her appointment as Headteacher. Prior to joining Coombe Dean, she taught English at Eggbuckland Community College.
Proud to be the school’s first female Headteacher in its 50-year history, Mrs Granville is passionate about knowing her students well. She spends much of her time visible around the site, building positive relationships that underpin her vision of a connected, supportive community.
Emma Osborn, Senior Assistant Headteacher - Literacy and Wellbeing
Mrs Osborn leads on literacy across Coombe Dean School, ensuring that high-quality literacy teaching underpins every classroom and that targeted interventions promote equity for all learners. Alongside this, she oversees wellbeing for both staff and students, bringing a calm, compassionate approach to every aspect of school life.
An experienced English teacher, Mrs Osborn previously led the school’s Sixth Form for four years and has also taught at South Dartmoor Community College and King Edward VI Community College in Totnes. She has strategic oversight of the school’s Senate, Coombe Dean’s student voice platform, and leads on the Year 11 Raising Standards Plan. Passionate about the power of literacy to unlock futures, Mrs Osborn is dedicated to helping every student realise their potential.
Charlie Jacks, Assistant Headteacher - Teaching and Learning, Curriculum and Post-16
Mr Jacks leads on Teaching and Learning and the curriculum across Years 7 to 13, ensuring that every student experiences a broad, ambitious, and well-sequenced education. He also provides strategic leadership for the school’s Post-16 provision and serves as the school’s strategic lead for Pupil Premium, while line managing the SEND Department with a focus on the school’s Inclusive Teaching Strategy.
A history and politics teacher by trade, Mr Jacks previously worked as Head of History/Politics in Somerset and as Head of Year and Key Stage Pastoral Leader in South-West London before joining Coombe Dean School as Assistant Headteacher in 2023. He is passionate about the power of high-quality teaching and a strong curriculum to remove barriers, raise aspirations, and enable students from all backgrounds to succeed.
Beth Duffield, Assistant Headteacher - Assessment, Data and Achievement
Mrs Duffield leads on assessment, data and achievement across Coombe Dean School, overseeing the school timetable, examinations, and the tracking and reporting of student progress to ensure timely intervention and success for all learners. She is passionate about the power of data-informed practice to drive improvement and equality of opportunity.
A dedicated mathematics teacher, Mrs Duffield has taught at Coombe Dean since 2011, serving as Subject Leader for Mathematics before being appointed Assistant Headteacher in 2023. She works closely with the SEND and exams teams to coordinate exam access arrangements and plays a key role in developing trust-wide assessment strategies. Mrs Duffield also collaborates with the attendance team to secure early intervention for students at risk of persistent absence.
Kate McPherson, Assistant Headteacher - Behaviour, Attitudes, Attendance; Inclusion and Personal Development
Mrs McPherson leads on behaviour, attendance and personal development across Coombe Dean School, ensuring a consistent and supportive approach that enables every student to thrive. She oversees all pastoral elements of school life and works closely with families and staff to build strong, positive relationships within the Coombe Dean community.
A teacher of Food Technology, Mrs McPherson joined Coombe Dean in 2023, having previously taught at Churston Grammar School and Lipson Co-operative Academy. She is passionate about creating a personal development curriculum that shapes confident, rounded young people and ensures a graduated response to behaviour, removing barriers to success. Her work ensures that all learners are supported, valued and empowered to reach their full potential.
Lara Sutherland, Associate Assistant Headteacher - Careers and The Coombe Dean Commitment (Extra-Curricular)
Mrs Sutherland joined Coombe dean in 2007 as Head of PE, later progressing to become Director of Sport. She now leads on Careers Education across Coombe Dean School, coordinating work experience for Years 10 and 12 and ensuring that all students are well-prepared for their next steps beyond school. Alongside this, she oversees the Coombe Dean Commitment, the school’s extensive and rapidly growing extra-curricular programme designed to enrich students’ personal development and broaden their horizons.
As SLT pastoral link for Years 7 and 8, Mrs Sutherland also leads on transition from Year 6 to 7, helping new students feel welcomed and supported as they join the Coombe Dean community. She organises open events and strengthens community engagement. A teacher of PE and GCSE Travel and Tourism, Mrs Sutherland is passionate about opportunity, belonging and student growth.
Natasha Dulson, Associate Assistant Headteacher (SENDCo) - SEND and Inclusion
Mrs Dulson is the school’s SENDCo, leading on all aspects of inclusion and additional needs provision across Coombe Dean School. Her work ensures that every student, regardless of need, is supported to access high-quality teaching and achieve their full potential. She leads a dedicated team of Deputy SENDCos, Higher Level Teaching Assistants and Teaching Assistants, whose expertise and care are fundamental to the school’s success.
A teacher of A Level Psychology and Criminology, Mrs Dulson combines her academic expertise with a deep commitment to inclusive practice and student wellbeing. Her influence permeates every area of school life, as she works with staff, students and families to remove barriers to learning and champion the values of equity and inclusion.
