Coombe Dean School

A Fantastic Franco-British Exchange!

The French pen pals of our Y8 students came to our school and played rounders with our Y8s.

Merci beaucoup pour votre aide avec le groupe de français et classe huit 🙂

What an exciting and memorable day it was for our Year 8 French learners and their pen pals from Collège Denis Diderot in Dainville! The long-awaited visit to Coombe Dean finally arrived, and it was a true celebration of language, friendship, and fun.

Our French visitors received a warm Devon welcome as they met their pen pals in person for the very first time. Smiles, handshakes, and even a few nervous giggles filled the air as friendships moved from paper to reality.

The highlight of the visit? A lively and laughter-filled game of rounders! For many of our French guests, it was their first time playing this classic British game — but they picked it up quickly, showing great teamwork and enthusiasm. The sun shone brightly, adding to the joy of the day and making it feel like a real summer treat.

After the fun and games, we gathered to wave our new friends off as they boarded the bus to their next stop — learning cricket at Paignton Cricket Club! As they departed with big smiles and cheerful waves, it was clear that memories had been made and cross-Channel friendships had been forged.

We’re incredibly proud of how welcoming and enthusiastic our Year 8 students were. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success — especially the staff who supported both schools and helped bring this international exchange to life.
