Year 9 Explore Future STEM Pathways at University of Plymouth

On Friday 6 February, all of our Year 9 students had the exciting opportunity to attend the Science and Engineering Showcase at the University of Plymouth—an inspiring event designed to open young minds to the possibilities within STEM careers.

Throughout the day, students explored a wide range of cutting-edge research and interactive activities. They experimented with robotics, stepped into immersive virtual-reality experiences, discovered innovative approaches to growing plants, and even met a variety of fascinating creatures. Each activity offered a glimpse into real-world scientific challenges and the careers that help solve them.

A highlight of the visit was a guided tour of the university campus. Students were able to speak directly with undergraduates currently studying science and engineering subjects, gaining valuable insight into university life and the pathways that lead from school to STEM professions.

This experience is a key part of our ongoing commitment to raising aspirations and inspiring future careers in science, technology, engineering and maths. We are incredibly proud of how engaged and curious our students were throughout the day— there’s no doubt that many are left with new interests, ambitions, and a deeper understanding of the exciting futures STEM can offer.
