Year 7 German Students Discover a Wonderful First-Day Tradition
Our Year 7 students have had a fantastic week and have thrown themselves enthusiastically into learning a new language. As part of their introduction to German culture, students learned about the traditional German Schultüte.
In Germany, children receive a Schultüte (school cone) on their first day of school. These colourful cones are traditionally filled with stationery, sweets, toys and small gifts to help celebrate the exciting milestone of starting school.
To bring this tradition to life, our Year 7 German students were delighted to receive their own Schultüten. Inside, they found a selection of treats, including a Glücksschwein (lucky pig), which is a traditional symbol of good luck in Germany.
The students thoroughly enjoyed discovering this cultural tradition and learning how school life is celebrated in another country. We are sure they will have shared the experience with you at home, although we suspect that any sweets included may already be a distant memory!
